1. The DNS server does not resolve to the correct IP address
   (the DNS server for snbchf.com is with Hostgator in Houston, Texas)
2. The server itself is down.

We use different tools to test if a domain is up or down. E-llusion has subscribed to a domain

During the last problem with Hostgator the site Uptrends showed far better results than the Pingdom Tools used by E-llusion.

It was able to identify the DNS problems but Pingdom did not.

The tool is not exactly a tool. It has a database of real online tools and the only function which is doing а real test.

This tool just generate a link and then you need to click and go in every single tool website.

We implement a new monitoring system, which monitor all of the resources of the server – RAM, CPU, HDD etc. It also monitor if the sites are online or not.

It sends a report with the performance once a week. It also sends warning, when something hit 75% of his limit. For example, if we use 75% of our disk space, the monitoring system will notify us.

If something critical is happend, it starts sending SMS to me and our sys admin. For example, if the memory hit 100% of his limit. Or if the site is down.

It also has some automatically functions like “restart apache & nginx, if it freeze”, which was a problem in the past for us.
