IMAP Folders

On this page we show how to use a file naming logic for multiple accounts on Thunderbird.

It is step3 in the Thunderbird setup page.

Rename IMAP folders

This short video explains how to rename IMAP Folders based on the syntax:

Provider.MailAccount (imap)

Example: E-llusion.george

Example: renaming IMAP Folder

We do not want indications of a real email in the folders, when we publish videos.

People can easily find them.

Therefore we rename again.

Example: We do not want snbchf.dorgan because you see the email address

But we use snb.dorgan

Thunderbird automatically creates a new folder with the server name.

• imap.gmail.com
• imap.gmail~1.com
• imap.gmail~2.com
• posteo.de

Step1: We rename the folders.

Thunderbird must be closed at this time.

IMAP Location Change

• [ ] — Create Folder for changed IMAP Location
• [ ] Go to E:\!!Thunderbird\MainProfile\ImapMail
• [ ] “!George” folder for George’s emails
• [ ] “!Blogs” folder for Blogs
• [ ] “!Other” for other emails
• [ ] —– Setup Thunderbird to work with moved IMAP files
• [ ] Click on the Account Mail Name
• [ ] Right click –> Settings
• [ ] Server Settings –> at the bottom look at Local Directory
• [ ] Click on Browse and navigate to the moved IMAP file for each account
• [ ] – – Subfolders
• [ ] Rename according to syntax
• [ ] Provider.Name (imap)
• [ ] Restart Thunderbird

Step2: Rename the IMAP folder

We must open close Thunderbird each time.

Not used folders, files

Two Reasons:

• Thunderbird has recreated them as we showed above.
• We did not use the right format for the IMAP folder, when we created the account for ecoblogs, wordpress Pro ….

Delete not needed Folders MSF Files

Always use local folder for Thunderbird

Do not create Thunderbird file on Pcloud. This slows down Thunderbird extremely. Reason are the big IMAP data files. (screen)

You must create it on local drive, remember how to name IMAP file.

Local Folders must be also C-Drive.
