We have two sets of message filters.

1. Blog Accounts

• New Article
• Economic Blogs
• WordPress Pro
• SNBCHF gmail
• SNBCHF Contact

Detailed Checklist for Blogs

• Master folder: H:\Sync\!Softwar\!Thunderbird\CM02o Message Filters Blogs
• Copy master msgFilterRules.dat
• Go to folder – E:\!!Thunderbird\MainProfile\ImapMail\!Blogs\ Copy msgFilterRules.dat into !Blogs folder
• Then simply Copy msgFilterRules.dat file and put in the other Account which you want to apply the changes of Message Filters

• Named as msgFilterRules.dat
• Master folder: H:\Sync\!Softwar\!Thunderbird\CM02o Message Filters Private
• Copy master msgFilterRules.dat
• Goto to folder !George and master account –> E:\!!Thunderbird\MainProfile\ImapMail\!George\Swiss
• Copy msgFilterRules.dat into !George folder
• Then simply Copy msgFilterRules.dat file and put in the other Account which you want to apply the changes of Message Filters –> for example E:\!!Thunderbird\MainProfile\ImapMail\gmail.george (imap)

A filter consists of a list of filter rules

• a compare element
• a condition
• a keyword

Working on message filters

Remember to work always on one account when you edit the message filters.

Reason: You export and import it.

Naming of message filters:

We name the filters using

• account name
• From-To or Subject

Order of message filters

The message filters are ordered as follows:

1. First all From-To rules for all accounts
   Inside the From-To rules we order by account (first the private account, then company)
2. Then all Subject rules for all accounts
   Again inside we order by account.

Compare Elements: From, To and Subject

We use three types of compare elements

• From-To: The sender or receiver contains a certain text (see above).
• subject: The subject of the mail contains a certain text.
• we use a few other for the body.

Each rule must say if it is From-To or a Subject rule.

Duplicated Mails after Running Filters that move to Folders

The video explains that we get duplicated mails after running filters.
This happens when the message filters move the mails into the physical folders.

Filters should not move the mails into the folders, but only create tags.

Work-Around:

Pay attention where you run the rules.
