Case1: Existing tag deleted.

Regular Checks

• Restore/Create the same Tag –> George will ask for it
• Click on some Email
• Up of “Subject” column, there is “Tag” option (this will be able to click, only when you are clicked already on some email)
• Once it is able for click, click and go to “Manage Tags”
• From “New” is adding new Tag
• Type the right name of the Tag

When we delete a tag that is still used. By default Thunderbird uses the very first tag instead. This was “Dor: Aboutme”.

Do not delete used tags

Work-around: We now have defined a first tag called “AAA: tag got Deleted!””.

This helps us to quickly identify deleted tags.

All keywords for some tag must be alphabetically ordered.

Case2: Wrong Keyword in filter

• Message Filters are working based on rules
• Every Filter has many rules (keywords)
• Sometimes the Rule (Keyword) is wrong written
• Go to Tools from Menu Bar and Open Message Filters
• From here have to edit the Rule with wrong Keyword written

Case3: Keywords not strict enough

• Sometimes some Rule of our Message Filters are not strict enough
• Missing dot for example
• Go to Tools from Menu Bar and Open Message Filters
• From here have to edit the Rule and fix it

• Message Filters are reading from top to bottom one by one
• If some Rules has one or more same Keywords
• Which Rule is upper than the other
• This Tag will be append to the Email

IET Offers mails

problem: goes into IET Important, but must go into IET Offers

Remember that when is filter is OK; then it stops.

• simply to execute IET Offers before IET Important, This changes the normal alphabetical order, but this rule is more strict.
• The example shows how you identify more strict filters.
• We have only few filters with AND condition (Match all). They must always come first.

Case 5: Mix up of And and Any

• When Editing Message Filter
• Take a look of “Match all of the following” and “Match any of the following”
• If “Match all of the following” is chosen
• This means the Filter will append the tag only when ALL listed rules are matched
• If “Match any of the following” is chosen
• This means the Filter will append the tag only when ANY of listed rules is matched

Case 5a: Use of All instead Any

Filter must look for any of the following keywords and should place the tag.

How to Cleanup

Correct Filters

Step1: As explained in the case1-case5. Do this for the master.

Step1b: Save the master

Step1c: Import the corrected filters  to the account with the problems, Run Script

Correct Wrong Tags

Step2:  Select messages and remove the tags.

Solution: Select the message that have a wrong tag.

Step1: Find messages with wrong keyword.

Step2: Remove all tags from these messages (see screen)

Step3: Run the new message filters on the physical folders, where the wrong messages are.

Result: The right tags are used.

Put X in the table
