- Check whether your USB device is listed under Control Panel > External Devices. All connected external storage devices should be listed under the External Devices tab.
- Check whether your Synology NAS supports the USB device’s file system format. Supported formats include Btrfs, ext3, ext4, FAT32, exFAT, HFS Plus, and NTFS.
- If your USB device uses an unrecognized format, it should be formatted first. For more information, please refer to this article.
- Restart your Synology NAS with the steps below:
- Shut down your Synology NAS.
- Unplug the power cord for 20 seconds.
- Remove your USB device from the USB port on your Synology NAS.
- Power on your Synology NAS.
- Reconnect your USB device to the USB port on your Synology NAS.
- Try connecting your USB device to a different USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on your Synology NAS.
- If your USB device works when connected to one port but not to another of the same specification, it could be that one of the ports is damaged. Please contact your local reseller for repair if your Synology NAS is within warranty.
- If the system can detect your USB device when it is connected to a USB 2.0 port but not to a USB 3.0 port, it could be due to a compatibility issue. Please refer to the Synology Products Compatibility List for more information.
- Try connecting your USB device to your personal computer. If your USB device does not work, it might be damaged. Please use other USB devices.
- Try connecting other USB devices to the same USB port on your Synology NAS. If they cannot be detected, the USB port might be damaged. Please contact your local reseller for repair if your Synology NAS is within warranty.
- Check whether your USB device is compatible with your Synology NAS. Please refer to the Synology Products Compatibility List for more information.
